Bands in Canada are on their way to becoming the new Arkansas. Let me explain. Doesn't it seem peculiar that everyone in Canada seems to be inbred to everyone musically? Broken Social Scene for instance is a cluster f of members from different bands such as Leslie Feist (Feist), Emily Haines (Metric), Evan Cranley and Amy Millan (Stars), Andrew Whiteman (Apostle of Hustle) Kevin Drew and Charles Spearin (Do Make Say Think), and Jason Collett to name a few. Now Black Mountain has started this process but in the reverse order. Broken Social Scene's members were all successful on their own and then gathered to form a group; Black Mountain got successful then began spawning their side projects. Ok kids, just try your best to follow. Black Mountain consists of Stephen McBean, Matthew Camirand, Jeremy Schmidt, Joshua Wells, and Amber Webber. Listing the names is essential in following this chaos.
One side project band called Lightning Dust includes the duo Amber Webber and Joshua Wells. Lightning Dust's sophomore album Infinite Light (Jagjaguwar) will be released August 8, 2009. They have been touring with Bonnie Prince Billy, Constantines, Weakerthans, Joe Rae Fletcher and Cotton Jones. Their last show is tomorrow in Seattle, WA.

The OTHER side band lead by Stephen McBean is Pink Mountaintops, which also includes Matthew Camirand. They are now on tour for their May 5, 2009 release of their album Outside Love (Jagjaguwar).

Pink Mountaintops are touring with Quest for Fire. Their self titled debut is set to release June 9, 2009 (Tee Pee Records). Here is a pretty spiffy video for their single "I've Been Trying To Leave" and downloads of "Bison Eyes" and "Hawk That Hunts the Walking" off their debut album.
