Have you been missing Wayne Coyne's (singer of the Flaming Lips) boy in the big giant bubble act? Maybe you can settle for Wayne's nephew, Dennis Coyne's band Stardeath and White Dwarfs also from Norman, OK. The name sounds a little kinky. For some reason I imagine Ziggy Stardust + the Grim Reaper + Mini-Me. I guess it's something about referencing the Flaming Lips that makes my imagination run wild.
Not surprising that their sound is very genetically familiar of The Flaming Lips especially in the dreamy song "Age of the Freak." Sure they aren't as good as The Flaming Lips now, but if you would have told me as a 12 year old kid that the same band that sang, "She Don't Use Jelly, she uses Vasoline" would come out with one of my favorite mind blowing albums, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots 2002, I would have thrown my slap bracelet at your head. After touring with Uncle Wayne for years, little Dennis' training wheels are ready to come off. Having previously opened for Deerhoof, Band of Horses, Starlight Mints, and British Sea Power it is hard to imagine that Wayne didn't have something to do with their notablility. Wayne even helped with their penmanship for they signed alongside The Flaming Lips with the huge record label Warner Bros.
They
released their debut EP in 2005, but are soon to release their first
full-length album The Birth (May
19, 2009). You can download

Man) riff on "Those who are from the sun, return to the sun." From these four songs, they all sound
completely different and I am curious to see how cohesive the album will sound as whole. With this much potential, these guys should have plenty of leg room to grow.
