"Red Socks Pugie" and "Balloons" are both songs off the Foals debut album Antidotes (March 25, 2008) on Sub Pop records. The album was originally going to be produced by Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio but the Oxford, England band fired the poor guy after hearing the final mix and remixed the entire album themselves. They didn't agree with the "spacey" reverb sound.
Their first single "Balloons" brings me back to that lovely 80s song "99 Red Balloons" by Nena. If you forgot how wonderful the song was or the video here is a reminder. Although "99 Red Balloons" was a song about war, this "Balloons" song by the Foals pretty much repeats the same few lyrics "there is this thing called...love, we fly balloons on this fuel called... love." The intro is a Minus the Bear sounding riff, minus the annoying singer and adding the sometimes screaming Brit, Yannis Philippakis. The Foals new video "Red Socks Pugie" is their third single off the album Antidotes. The video takes the lyrics literally when "our hearts swell, which makes us explode."
