Woo hoo! A new Of Montreal single! It seems when everyone else wants to put out mellow self-deprecating songs, Of Montreal is moving in the opposing direction.  They were once a more melancholy acoustic guitar band but now creator of the songs and front-man, Kevin Barnes loves the beats, loudness, and pumping action of his quirky and sometimes uncomfortable songs.  You can get caught up in the moment of the excitement of the song and then you listen to what he is singing about and think, "What did he just say?"  The beauty of their songs is that it doesn't matter what he is talking about, they have created beautifully dancy arrangements that are candy to the ear.  When watching them live last year they performed a new slower Al Green sounding song that is going to be on the new album.  The reference was unsubtly the story of getting a blow job.  Although Barnes is married (to a female), his newer ambiguous performance attire in outfits like tiny thongs follows the lead of his icon, David Bowie.  Their live performances are extremely entertaining to say the least.  Probably my favorite live show in years, it is an explosion of the senses.  More like a poor bands way of knowing how to create a performance with added inexpensive effects like women dangling on a swing, faux slow motion sword fights, phallic animation on a big screen, and confusing feathery leather outfits by the band mates with tons of glittery makeup.

Singer Barnes has gotten a lot more literally ballsy over the years when he showed his "twig and berries" in a few songs at a Las Vegas show.  By the pictures from this show, it was no Janet Jackson boob popping out accident, he definitely would have felt this breeze.  Another time I do not choose to put nudie pics on this site... but I definitely know your perversion makes you curious, so check out Barnes' full-frontal on Pitchfork's shameless website.  Maybe earlier in the show that red wrapping paper had "his present" hiding underneath and he had a revealing while singing "You've Got a Gift."  Their album Skeletal Lamping that includes the song "Id Engager" is to be released on October 7, 2008.  Barnes describes it as "unpredictable, at times startling, yet always hummable and catchy."
