Most of what you'll read about Pree is about comparisons of their sound to Modest Mouse or the other Isaac Brock vehicle, Ugly Casanova. I immediately thought of Joanna Newsom when I heard this -- but whatever. The thing that really drew me to this project was the fact that the lead singer May Tabol (pictured above) was formally of the band Le Loup from the D.C. area -- a band which I was totally into last year at about this time, and even blogged about them, twice!:
I think Le Loup's "Planes Like Vultures" (the video linked above) was in my top 5 songs of 2008 for sure.
As for Pree, their first album is coming out on Kora Records on March 24th. It'll be called A Chopping Block.
