The song is deceptively simple, but its really difficult to pin down what the driving force is. All the elements are easily discernible -- a very simple bass riff, uncomplicated drum samples, two vocals politely respecting the others frequency range, the two guitars stay in their own ranges as well.
With so little dynamics you would think the song lacked any color -- but thats the beauty of this track. It takes a lot of compositional skill to take all those simple elements and weave them together in such a way that it creates the depth that "Crystalised" possesses. I'm not saying these guys are Sufjan Stevens quite yet, but you really have to respect people who at such a young age have the restraint to use all of their instruments as equal partners in a song. Not one element of the song stands out above the rest -- but all are absolutely necessary. The only element that disrespects the other's space is the eerie ghost harmonies that float behind everything and tie it all together.
