One would think that with Radiohead releasing new material this week that the music blogosphere would be talking about nothing but Yorke and co. You'd be wrong. As I'm trying to reintroduce myself to the music world after a three month break all I'm reading about is Volcano Choir. And after a listen, and then finding out who is behind the band, this is going to be all I'm talking about for a long time too.

Volcano Choir is Justin Vernon (yes, THAT Justin Vernon, the man behind Bon Iver) and a band called Collection of Colonies of Bees. They collaborated on this album before Vernon recorded his wonderful For Emma, Forever Ago and it is just now being released next month.

If you've ever wondered what Vernon would sound like with a full band behind him, the answer is; exactly like TV on the Radio. If someone had told me that Tunde Adebimpe was the lead singer of Volcano Choir I never would have known the difference. Nor had I ever made the comparison when listening to Bon Iver -- maybe other people heard it, but for me it took hearing him with a full band behind him for it to be apparent to me.

That's not to say that this song is derivative, or to take away from it at all. Honestly, the only thing that sounds like TV on the Radio is the vocals. Otherwise the music itself is a very cool Steve Reich/Philip Glass type composition pulsing along to a mid tempo back beat.

To understand that this was recorded BEFORE For Emma, and to realize that this sounds fresh and very cool today, is to realize that Justin Vernon is a man with a very, very deep pocket of ideas. If this is his old stuff, I am absolutely thrilled to hear what he's got coming our way next.

Volcano Choir's Unmap comes out September 22 on Jagjaguwar

No dates yet, but Bon Iver plays Los Angeles on September 25 at the Wiltern, and is in Austin on October 3rd at ACL.

Sorry. Whatever you do, do it to the purpose; do it thoroughly, not superficially. Go to the bottom of things. Any thing half done, or half known, is in my mind, neither done nor known at all. Nay, worse, for it often misleads. Help me! There is an urgent need for sites: Annamalai university distance education results. I found only this - director of distance education.
